Achievements in Sustainability

Adidas is working on bringing its first completely sustainable shoes in the market by 2021. They are also working on bio-fabricated material for their apparel. Adidas is currently testing a recyclable loop for its transport packaging service. Additionally, by the year 2024, the company will shift to completely recyclable polyester.

Adidas firmly believes that through the power vested in sports, they can change lives. They strive to create a healthier and cleaner environment where everyone can happily engage in sports.

One major step by Adidas that pushed the company in the direction towards its goals is its partnership with Parley for the Oceans. This partnership aims to reduce plastic waste in the ocean. With all the plastic collected, they then came up with a new line of shoes named “Adidas Parley Shoes” In the first year of the launch exclusively, Adidas managed to sell over a million shoes crafted from ocean plastic waste. Customers now also have the option to purchase shirts, pants, and dresses too. Furthermore, Adidas hosted a race, Run for the Oceans, on World Oceans Day. During this race, runners had to run a large distance for a whole week, and for every kilometer ran, Adidas donated $1 to Parley Education School. Adidas did surpass its goal of raising $1.5 million.

Additionally, Adidas initiated a program called “Infinite Play” in the UK that allows buyers to return the Adidas apparel and footwear. In exchange for the discarded material, the customers receive up to $25 worth vouchers to utilize on the company’s online store. All the returned items are either resold or recycled for future use.

Since the year 2019, the company has been testing the first completely recyclable shoes “Futurecraft Loop”. The company also uses recyclable polyester, and 100% of its cotton is sustainable. Adidas with all these attempts is trying to ensure that sports remain a source of happiness, and as a globally responsible company, preserve the environment
