A new fashion collection inspired by the stunning city of Paris featuring clothes that actively absorb CO2 previews in the French capital this week.
Called the capsule collection, it has been produced through a collaboration between French car manufacturer DS Automobiles, designers, EGONlab and London-based design research studio, Post Carbon Lab. The unisex four-piece selection consists of a Parisian inspired slogan bomber jacket, trench coat and two t-shirts.
Part of the drive by DS to highlight its eco credentials and electrified range, this is a very smart innovation. Made using a photosynthetic coating developed by Post Carbon Lab containing living algae it can absorb CO2 and emit oxygen, converting the carbon into glucose. Over 10 weeks the collection ‘absorbed up to 1,452g of CO2, the same amount as a six-year-old oak tree over approximately six months’.
“We took inspiration from the city of Paris and the strong spirit of its residents and were excited to work with new materials and techniques. The bomber jacket and trench coat are partially coated with the photosynthetic coating, whilst the t-shirts, have been completely treated with the coating. We love how each piece has turned out and how accessible they are for people looking to make a statement and reduce their carbon footprint.” Florentin Glemarec and Kévin Nompeix, Joint CEOs & Artistic Directors of EGONlab.
Paris Fashion Week runs virtually from 1-10 March.
